After being absent from the sport
for many years, in 2003 I was fortunate enough to have
my best friend and cousin, Kenny Kelley, help with acquiring
forty Young Birds from Rick Mardis at Continental Breeding
Station. Flying with the Big Spring Club, these birds
won me many first places, average speed, champion loft
and also champion bird awards. I have to thank Rick
for the fantastic birds that got me started back in
the sport, his friendship, and also all the help he
has given me over the last few years. During this same
time I visited some of the best breeders and flyers
in the sport to acquire top quality breeders. These
breeders coming from the great lofts of Kenny Kelley,
Rick Mardis, C.L. Gage, Mike Ganus, Chris Peeman, and
Barry Yu just to name a few. With the youngsters from
these breeders, I was very competitive in local races
and also the futurities we entered that year.
In May 2004, together with some area pigeon flyers,
we started the Sweetwater Area Racing Pigeon Club. Now
14 members strong, we are growing every year and looking
forward to each racing season. This same year, the Kelley/Buckner
partnership was formed. I felt very fortunate to be
able to partner up with one of the best pigeon fanciers
in the sport. Kenny Kelley is a top flyer in the Denton
Invitational R.P.C. and also the North Texas Concourse.
As a judge and top flyer he has added tremendous knowledge
to the partnership.
In 2005 we traveled to Europe with Rick Mardis and
were able to hand pick birds from some of the top lofts.
Breeding from these and other acquired birds it looks
as if we have made the right choices. After sending
the youngsters to other flyers and futurities, they
have proven to be some of the best in the pigeon sport.
After spending the last 3 years breeding and proving our pigeons I think we have the birds to help any loft, whether it be for the futurities or improving your breeding stock.

Having pigeons since the age of 4
it didn't take much to get me interested in the sport of Racing Pigeons once
introduced to it in 1975.
As one of the Chartered members of the Abilene Racing Pigeon Club, started
in 1975, we flew our first young bird season in 1976 with the Big Country
Combine. That year I won my first race and that was all it took. I was
hooked on racing--out with the Fancies and in with the flying athletes.
While racing with the Big Country Combine I won Champion Loft, Champion
Bird, Average Speed, Texas Center Convention Race, AU Hall of Fame and Texas
Center Hall of Fame awards.
In 1991 I moved to the DFW Metroplex and won my first race flying with the North Texas Concourse that same year. While flying with the North Texas Concourse, I've won my share of Champion
Loft, Champion Bird, Average Speed,
AU Hall of Fame and Texas Center Hall of Fame. Flying with the North Texas Concourse I won a few local races: North Texas Futurity, Fort Worth Futurity, Golden Triangle Race, Dallas Combine Auction Race, Champion Bird for the Classic Race (3 times) and bred the winning bird of one of the Denton Auction Race.
In my early years of flying I flew "give me birds". In the late 70's and early 80's I purchased a few Husken Van Reil pigeons. They flew well for me and I still have them today.
In 1998 I was fortunate to become a flying partner with Rick Mardis. The CBS pigeons were well represented on race day. I flew this partnership until the Kelley/Buckner partnership in 2004. During the summer of 2005 we traveled to Europe with Rick Mardis and imported a few birds from Serg VanElsacker, Eric Berckmoes and Andre Roodhooft, to mention a few. We have had some early showing from some of these birds, and looking for a lot more.
